Coronavirus disease update in Kenya today
The Ministry of Health (MOH) Kenya informed the general public that
“The 27 year old patient who was confirmed as the first Coronavirus positive case in Kenya is in a stable condition, with normal vital signs …We thank her for taking prompt action & seeking prompt health advice. And we wish other Kenyans will follow her example …”CAS Dr. Mwangangi
Following the confirmation of a case of #COVID-19 in the country on Friday the 13th March 2020, the Ministry of Health has traced 22 close contacts who have been quarantined at KNH Isolation Unit at Mbagathi.
Twenty three other persons of mixed nationalities who travelled on the same flight with the patient have also been traced and advised to undertake self-quarantine for 14 days CAS Dr, Mercy Mwangangi said on Saturday 14th March at a media briefing.
The Ministry of Health said that, “We have set up two counseling centers, one in KNH and another in Mbagathi and deployed counselors who are to take care of the quarantined patients and their families,” Dr. Mwangangi.
The Public Health Emergency Operation Centre has been fully activated to coordinate response efforts. Let us not panic but observe the preventive measures outlined by the Ministry…Dr Mwangangi.
A call center has been set up to enhance communication on COVID-19. Members of the public can reach out by dialing 719 for audio messages or *719# for short messages. This will apply across all networks.
A team from the Ministry of Health led by the Deputy Director, Public Health Dr. Fidelis Lagho on Saturday, March 14th fumigated the building and surrounding from which the first case of #COVID_19 resided, in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.
Members of the public are advised to maintain basic hand hygiene, and safe food practices. Basic hand hygiene begins with hand washing.
The Ministry of Health Kenya says it continues to maintain heightened surveillance at all points of entry, health facilities and communities across the country and urge members of the public to remain vigilant and to continue taking the precautionary measures as advised.
