1459 more test positive for Covid-19 in Kenya
Today 1,459 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 10,146 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 74,145 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. The cumulative tests are now 815,040. From the cases 1,419 are Kenyans and 40 are foreigners. 835 are males and 624 females. The youngest is a four-month old infant, while the oldest is 97.
Distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 472, Kiambu 311, Mombasa 108, Laikipia 63, Uasin Gishu 53, Busia 49, Kisumu 48, Meru 43, Nakuru 36, Kericho 33, Kisii 29, Kakamega 29, Marsabit 17, Murang’a 16, Nyamira 16, Kajiado 15, Garissa 13, Nandi 12, Kitui 12, Nyeri 11, Machakos 11, Siaya 10, Bungoma 10, Turkana 8, Kirinyaga 8, Kilifi 6, Bomet 5, Trans Nzoia 4, Homabay 3, Makueni 2, Taita Taveta 2, Kwale 2, Isiolo 1, and Tharaka Nithi 1.
In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 472 cases in Nairobi, are from Westlands (71), Kibra (55), Lang’ata (35), Dagoretti North (33), Starehe (32), Makadara (30), Kamukunji and Roysambu (27) cases each, Kasarani (25), Mathare (24), Dagoretti South (23), Embakasi Central (22), Embakasi East and Embakasi West (17) cases each, Ruaraka (13), Embakasi North (12) and Embakasi South (9).
In Kiambu, the 311 cases are from Thika (62), Kiambu Town (50), Ruiru (46), Kikuyu (33), Kiambaa (31), Limuru (18), Kabete (15), Gatundu South (14), Githunguri and Juja (13) cases each, Gatundu North (11) and Lari (5).
In Mombasa, the 108 cases are from Mvita (49), Jomvu (35), Nyali (9), Changamwe and Kisauni (6) cases each, Likoni (3). In Laikipia the 63 cases are from Laikipia West (49) and Laikipia East (14).
In Uasin Gishu, the 53 cases are from Ainabkoi (27), Kesses and Turbo (8) cases each, Soy (4), Kapseret and Moiben (3) cases each. In Busia, the 49 cases are from Matayos (35), Teso South (10) and Nambale (4).
In Kisumu, the 48 cases are from Kisumu Central and Kisumu East (23) cases each, Kisumu West and Nyando (1) case each. In Meru, the 43 cases are from Imenti North (17), Igembe South (12), Imenti South (10), Igembe Central (2), Buuri and Tigania West (1) case each. In Nakuru, the 36 cases are from Nakuru East (11), Naivasha (7), Nakuru West and Rongai (5) cases each, Molo (4), Gilgil (3) and Nakuru North (1).
In Kericho, the 33 cases are from Ainamoi (22), Belgut (8) and Kipkelion East (3). In Kisii the 29 cases are from Kitutu Chache South (20), Kitutu Chache North (5) and Bonchari (4). In Kakamega, the 29 cases are from Mumias West (11), Lurambi (10), Mumias East (3), Malava and Matungu (2) cases each, Navakholo (1).
In Marsabit, all the 17 cases are from Saku. In Murang’a, the 16 cases are from Kiharu (10), Gatanga (5) and Kangema (1). In Nyamira, the 16 cases are from Nyamira Town (6), Nyamira North (5), Masaba North (3) and Manga (2).
In Kajiado, the 15 cases are from Kajiado North (9), Kajiado East (5) and Kajiado Central (1). In Garissa, the 13 cases are from Dadaab (11) and Garissa Town (2). In Nandi, the 12 cases are from Emgwen (9), Chesumei, Mosop and Tinderet (1) case each while in Kitui the 12 cases are from Kitui Central (7) and Kitui West (5).
In Nyeri, the 11 cases are from Mathira East and Nyeri central (4) cases each, Mukurweini (3). In Machakos, the 11 cases are from Athi River (10) and Kangundo (1). In Siaya, the 10 cases are from Alego Usonga (8) and Bondo (2). In Bungoma, the 10 cases are from Kanduyi (6), Kimilili (2), Kabuchai and Webuye East (1) case each.
In Turkana, all the 8 cases are from Turkana Central, while the 8 cases in Kirinyaga, are from Kirinyaga Central and Kirinyaga East (3) cases each, Kirinyaga North and Kirinyaga West (1) case each. In Kilifi, the 6 cases are from Malindi (5) and Kaloleni (1). In Bomet, all the 5 cases are from Bomet East, while in Trans Nzoia, the 4 cases are from Saboti (2), Endebess and Kiminini (1) case each.
In Homabay, the 3 cases are from Homabay Town and Rangwe (1). The 2 cases in Makueni, are all from Kibwezi East, the 2 cases in Taita Taveta, are from Voi, and the 2 cases in Kwale, are from Msambweni. The case in Isiolo, is from Merti and the case in Tharaka Nithi is from Igambang’ombe.
Today, 780 patients have recovered from the disease, 690 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 90 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 50,658.
Sadly, another 17 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 1,330. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones.
There are 1,116 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,232 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 59 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 27 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 28 on supplemental oxygen. Another 83 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 67 are in the general wards, while 16 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
